I love playing golf but I am beginning to find it very expensive. I started out with some second hand clubs and no bag but bought some new clothes which fitted in with the dress code of the club. As I got better I bought new clubs balls ad managed to get a second hand bag. However, as my club collection grows I find that my bag is getting to heavy to carry around and it is also getting scruffy looking. I need to get a new bag but am not sure what to get.

As everything is expensive, I want to make sure that I get a really good bag, which may cost a bit more money but that will last a long time. Something hard wearing will be best, which does everything that I need but also more, so that as my needs evolve the bag will continue to provide the service that I require.

I have been looking at all of the different types and brands. I have decided to go with a brand that I know. Many of my fellow players have recommended the Ogio bag as it is one that they have found works for them. I find that a personal recommendation is the best type and so I have been looking at what they have available. I want something that I can use on a golf cart as I have decided that lugging a heavy bag around the course is not doing my back any favors. I have managed to get access to a cart so it is just a case of getting a bag which works with one.

The Ogio Syncro Golf Bag seems to be one which will work with and without a golf cart which is great in case I decide that I do not like the cart after all. It has lots of pockets which seems like a good idea and even a waterproof one that I can keep valuables in. I have seen it online and will go into my local shop and see if they have one so that I can have a good look at it. It looks pretty good on the website that I found it on but I always like to look at something up close before I buy it, especially if it is a more expensive purchase.

If I like it, once I have checked it out, I will read customer reviews online of the bag. I will look at a whole range as some may be biased and of course the more you look at, the wider an opinion you will get. If the reviews look mainly favorable I will look online to find out where I can get the cheapest one from.

I find this is the best way of getting a good bargain, but if you are doing this make sure that you take notice of the delivery charge as these are not always the same ad can make the difference between the cheapest and dearest available bag.

The Athletics Before Reaching Oakland

The Athletics is an American League team situated in Oakland, California. Usually, they are referred to as As basing on the first letter of the word Athletics. It got its name from the amateur baseball team, the Athletic Club of Philadelphia in 1860s. They eventually joined the National League in 1876.

The Athletics of Philadelphia did not last long in the National League. The league kicked them out after a year. The team, with new members, joined the American Association a few years later. The American Association is a rival league of the NL.

That was the Athletics then. The Oakland Athletics we know today take its roots in 1901. They became one of the pioneer teams of the newly established American League. At that time, they carry the name Philadelphia Athletics. Connie Mack agreed to manage the team eventually became a partner. He managed to convince some people to invest in the team including Ben Shibe who is part owner of the Phillies.

Most of the team players were from the National Leagues. These caused some legal issues between the older National League and the newly established American League. However, it was not too long for the two major leagues to come to an agreement.

In the early 1900s, the As have demonstrated strength and power. They have six American League titles including four consecutive pennants from 1910 to 1914. They also won three World Series, 1913, 1911, and 1910.

Their early glories were because of its very talented players. They have three of the best pitchers during that time. They are Rube Wendell, Charles Bender, and Eddie Plank. However, the strong team weakened after losing the World Series in 1914. Some of their best players transferred to another league because of better offers. The team owners also sold and traded some of the remaining better players.

The changes turned the team for the worst. They finish last in the most of the following years. There were also rumors about the ways Connie Mack handled the team. Some even doubted that the players deliberately lose the World Series in 1914. Collie Mack contributed so much to what the Oakland Athletics is today. He never gave up the team even if it had the some of the lowest standing in 1935 to 1946. For fifty years, he managed and owned the team.

The team moved to Kansas City after it was sold to Arnold Johnson. After a few years, Finley gained control over the team. Although he promised that the As would stay in Kansas, he filed for request to move it to other cities. His requests were denied a few times. Finally, AL granted his request to transfer the team in Oakland.

Phillies Roller Coaster Ride

The Phillies probably faced the most struggles in the history of baseball. It took a while before they were finally given the distinction that a major-league team deserved. Several factors contributed to their struggles. Part of the challenges to excel in Philadelphia was another major league team that started in the early 1900s, the Philadelphia Athletics.

The team was formed in 1883. Originally, they were the Quakers. However, people commonly call them the Phillies. The nickname became popular, until such time that it took over the name of the team.

The pennant was out of the Phillies grasps for a long time. They only won the National League pennant in 1915 after its foundation in 1883. However, this is only one of the very few glorious moments in the early life of the team.

The popularity among the Philadelphia baseball team shifted to the Phillies though. The Athletics slowly lose their flare, the Philadelphia Phillies rose to stardom. They became the new favorite of baseball fans. This occurred when the ownership and management changed. William B. Cox purchased the team. After that, the team started winning.

However, Cox was banned from baseball after the National League found out that he has been betting. Bob Carpenter Jr. took over. Although it was slow, the success of the team came. Their efforts of scouting new talents paid off when they welcome Robin Roberts and Richie Ashburn aboard. The two made a major contribution in winning the NL pennant in 1950. Finally, they made their first appearance to the World Series since 1915.

The Phillies will not appear in the World Series for a long while after that, although at some point, the team showed promise of making it. They even experienced one of the most heartbreaking losses to a pennant race in 1964.

Their struggles continued. This does not mean that their players are slacking off. In fact, they have one of the hardest working lineups. However, it was not enough and they faced low points in the mid seventies.

The Phillies will not allow staying down throughout the seventies though. They earned three successive Division titles from 1976 to 1978. Their glorious years would continue until 1980 where they won their very first and only World Series. They had some pleasant years after winning the World Series. They again won the NL pennant in 1983 but they lost the World Series to the Orioles.

After their success in the early eighties, they would again go back to the bottom of the major league standings. The Philadelphia Phillies experienced other low points in the ensuing years. Up until 1992, the team would be at the end of the team rankings.

Again, the Phillies managed to make a comeback in 1993. They started out great. Deservingly, they earned the National League pennant and raced for the World Series, which they lost to Toronto Blue Jays.

The team had some difficult times after that. They were only to regain their winning rhythm in 2001. Although they did not make it to the World Series recently, they have managed to be among the potential contenders to Division and NL pennants.

Pittsburgh Pirates Pennant Stories

Ever since 1876, baseball has been part of the Pittsburgh past time. The Pittsburgh Alleghenies was among the independent teams that have been playing across the nation. The team played with a minor league. However, the team as well as the league did not last. They broke up in 1877.

The Alleghenies reunited in 1882 and signed up for the newly established league the American Association. They moved to the National League in 1887. They had average standings during the ensuing years.

However, their most difficult times arrived in 1890. Most of their star players transferred to the Players League. In an attempt to salvage the team, they signed Louis Bierbauer. He is a former second baseman of the Athletics. After the move, they adopted the nickname Pittsburgh Pirates because of accusation of pirating Bierbauer.

Bierbauer did not turn the team around in 1890. In fact, it is still the lowest point in the franchise history as of the moment.

Their struggles continued in the years after that. They improved significantly in 1992 and in 1993; they were up for the National League Pennant. However, they failed to take it home. This was short-lived. In 1894, the team struggled again.

By the end of 1984, Connie Mack took over the team. Although he made a strong team out the Pirates, it was enough to improve their team standing. Patsy Donovan replaced him in 1897. However, there was no significant improvement. The team even continued to encounter difficulties and finished at the eighth spot in 1897 and 1898.

This soon changed when Louisville owner Barney Dreyfuss came in. He traded most of his best players to the Pirates when he gained partial ownership of the Pittsburgh team. After a while, he gained full control of the pirates. He kept his power over the team until 1932, the year of his death.

The move of Dreyfuss was beneficial for the franchise. With the new breed of Pirates, the team dominated the National League in the early 1900s. They won three consecutive National League Pennants in 1901, 1902, and 1903. They became the first contender of the National League to the modern World Series in 1903. They lost particularly because of their injured pitchers.

It did not take long before they won their first World Series. This took place in 1909 when they beat the Detroit Tigers. It would take a long time before they win their next World Series, which happened in 1925.

Although the Pittsburgh Pirates won the NL pennant in 1927, they lost the World Series to the strong New York Yankees. It was a long wait before they could race for the NL pennant and the World Series again. Although they had future Hall of Famers on their team, it was not enough. They won their next NL pennant in 1960. During the same year, they had the World Series as well. The same thing happened in 1971 and 1979. The wait was long; however, the rewards were great.

The Pirates had a humble beginning. They had their lowest low. However, they also dominated the league at some point.

Reality TV Auditions: Prepare Your Portfolio With Proper Pictures

The cult-like following shows like The Bachelor and The Amazing Race have garnered have transformed the reality TV show format into something of a pop-culture phenomenon.

Whether you an experienced or amateur actor, you may have decided you would like to audition for a certain reality TV show. Even if you have no acting experience and no interest in acting, you may be considering trying out for a reality show just for the thrill of it. There are many factors to consider when auditioning to be on reality TV. One very important factor to consider is the portfolio of pictures you will submit in the audition process.

Already Have a Portfolio?

If you are an actor with any level of experience, you may already have an existing portfolio of professional photos of yourself. Your portfolio may include head shots, body shots and lifestyle photos among others. Whether the photos of you that are in your portfolio were taken by an agency, a professional photographer or a friend, they are undoubtedly both professional and flattering. Unfortunately, producers of reality TV shows are not looking for professional actors or models (unless you are trying out for Americas Next Top Model, etc.)

Keep it Real

If you want to audition for and get cast in a reality TV show, chances are, you will need to portray yourself as a real person A.K.A. your real self. So if you have a professional portfolio, scrap it altogether and start from ground zero. Choose a simple photo album for your portfolio. Go through recent personal photographs that include you. Make sure the photos you choose to include portray you as you currently look. If you had long hair but recently cut it, make sure to only use photos where your hair is the same as its current style.

Capacity for Drama

In addition to choosing pictures where you look like a regular (real) person and where you really look like yourself, look for different pictures that capture the range of emotion you are capable of. Reality TV producers look for participants that will create interesting circumstances due to their propensity for drama. In other words, do not choose only photos in which you are happy and shiningly smiling. Try to find some (or strategically take some) pictures where different emotions are captured on your face. This may sound gloomy, but if you have pictures where you look angry or sad, include them so that you come across as someone with some depth of emotion.

Personality Pointers

When putting together your photo album A.K.A. portfolio, make sure to include several pictures that portray your personality and lifestyle. For example, if you are known as a world traveler, use pictures of yourself in Italy, or at that Buddhist temple you visited last summer. If you are an avid athlete, include photos of recent events you participated. Try to use pictures that show you actively participating in life no matter how you do it.

Video Portfolio

Though sometimes you will be auditioning live, (and may be asked to submit your photographs prior to the audition) chances are you will be asked to videotape a 2 to 5 minute video of yourself first. Some reality TV producers request a video tape in lieu of photos or a portfolio. In this case, review past seasons of the program you are trying to get cast for and see what type of people the show is likely to pick. Practice in front of friends and family members, and re-record your audition as many times as it takes until you get it just right.

Playing Your 1st Golf Round

It’s “Tee Time” - Your first time teeing up and preparing to play golf can be a bit unnerving if you let it. It is human nature to be a little nervous when you are trying something new for the first time and people are around watching you. I have to admit when I first started playing I felt the same way. After a while you realize that many players are also beginners and not much more experienced than you and they are also nervous when it is their turn to hit in front of their fellow golfers. After a short time you will overcome your fear of the first tee. If you are having trouble at the first tee you have some options. When my significant other started playing golf she was petrified to hit in front of anyone. I explained my dilemma to the starter on the course and he was able to schedule us on the back nine or 10th tee where there were fewer players, if any around. This was very helpful in easing her into the game and it allowed her, and I for that matter, to enjoy a more leisurely round and first golf experience. Soon she was an old pro and the first tee jitters were gone. Another tip is to schedule your tee time when the course is less crowded, normally late morning or early afternoon, depending on the golf course. If you choose this option then it is a good idea to speak with your local golf professional or starter so they may suggest the optimal time for you to play.

If no other options are available and you’re out there on the first tee ready to go try to remember a few things. Everyone has to start somewhere and I can guarantee that most beginners were no better than you when they started. If you miss the ball try once more and then pick up and drop your ball in the approximate area of the other players in your group, an unwritten rule of golf etiquette. Another tip when on the tee is to “Relax”. I don’t mean to fall asleep over the ball, just take a deep breath and exhale slowly before you swing the club. Try to clear your mind of everything but the task at hand, hitting the golf ball and your swing. Also, if you have taken lessons and practiced sufficiently you will feel more confident on the tee and have a better chance for a successful swing result. No matter how you do the first few times out you should not be discouraged. If you really want to play golf then you have to give yourself some time to get the knack. If you are sports oriented the game of golf usually, and let me emphasize usually, comes much easier than for those who have not played any sport before.

After teeing up your ball, pick an object a short distance in front of you that will align your ball with the intended target line of your landing area. Then set up your shoulders and chest parallel to that object and target line. This should increase your odds for a successful swing more so than just swinging the club at the ball without a target or goal in mind. Remember you are just beginning and as much as I love the game of golf it is not an easy game to master for most. It is a game however, that can be played and enjoyed by players of any skill level. So give golf a chance - “It is the game of a lifetime”. Happy Golfing !

The Rivalry Between the Dodgers and the Giants

If you talk about feud in baseball, the Dodgers and the Giants are hard to miss. This two has one of the longest rivalries and most talked about in baseball history. Their rivalry is very interesting because the teams take turn to shine. No team has powerfully ruled the contention throughout the years.

The feud rooted over a century ago in New York. The Dodgers represented the American Association while the Giants for the National League in the 1889 version of the World Series. In 1990, the Dodgers followed the move of most AA teams and joined the National League. This sparked the beginning of several face-offs between the two.

History has it that the feud is not really a battle of the two teams in the beginning. The team owners of each team have an underlying grudge for each other. The teams served as instruments to get back at each other.

From New York, the rivalry moved to California in 1958. This was due to the insistence of Dodger owner, Walter OMalley. He moved his team in Los Angeles. In his desire to preserve the rivalry, he urged Horace Stoneham, Giants owner, to do the same. The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants were born.

Sadly, the feud did not remain in the baseball field. It grew to players having confrontations in and out of the arena. Fans were also involved in intense arguments and fights on and off the game.

Fans are so involved with the rivalry that they would celebrate in the mishaps of the opposing team. Some sportscasters would comment that for most fans, their team beating the number one rival is like winning the World Series.

The rivalry has also crept to the bones of the players. Hall of Famer Willie Mays never agreed to play for the Dodgers. In the same way fellow Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson retired after the decision to trade him to the Giants came out.

The teams raced neck to neck. If the Dodger is on top, the Giants is not far behind. The same is true when the Giants is leading. They have also managed to get in the way of each other. If the Dodger has a poor ranking, put most of the blame on the Giants. The same is true in an opposite scenario.

They also had some of the most popular fights for the National League pennant. One of the most talked about race took place in 1951, while they were still in New York. It ended with the shot heard round the world. This was a term given to the walk-off homerun by Bobby Thompson to give the Giants the win. It was dramatic because of the journey the Giants travelled to win the pennant. They faced each other in a tie-breaking match up until the homerun. History repeated itself in 1962, heartbreak for the Dodgers.

However, the Los Angeles Dodgers refuse to give the Giants all the Glory. In 2004, the Dodgers returned the favor and help gave the Giants an early vacation.

Today, the rivalry remains one of the best in the sporting history.

Yount, Brewers Pride

Robin R. Yount was born in Danville, Illinois on September 16, 1955. The young lad will soon become a Brewer superstar. At eighteen, he was the first round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers. This is the beginning of his impressive journey with the Brewers.

At a very young age, he wowed baseball fans. He dethroned Mel Ott when he became the number one teenager who played most number of games in major league. However, he did not only compete with the records set by his fellow teenagers.

At 22, he was already a veteran. He almost ended his career in baseball at this age and considered playing full time golf because of some issues on his payroll with the team. It was a good thing that everything went well because as the years went, he became an essential member of the team.

He made three All Star appearances, which took place in 1980, 1982 and 1983. He was also a recipient of the Silver Slugger Award in 1980, 1982 and 1989.

Among the highlights in his career took place in 1979 when he became the leader of the league in terms of doubles.

Another memorable season took place 1982. He led his team to the World Series. It was also during this season when he received, for the first time, the American League Most Valuable Player Award as a shortstop. During the same year, he received the Gold Glove Award.

He faced another challenge in his career in 1984. He went through a shoulder surgery. Many thought that it would end his career. However, the Milwaukee Brewers did not lose their faith on him. The team moved him in the center field position. This helped lighten up the burden on his injured shoulder. It took a while before he got use to the position. Since he has always been an above average athlete, he managed to make the most of where he was. In 1989, he became the third player to have two Most Valuable Player awards in two different positions.

He joined the elite 3000-hit club in 1992. His teammates said that he was pretty polite about his achievements. For him, anyone could achieve such thing if they have enough time to play. Many thought that he would go for the 4000-hit mark. However, he surprised many fans when he retired in 1993 at the age 37. He had a promising career and many were expecting more great things from him.

He dedicated his entire career with the Brewers. He remains the leading Brewer in different categories such as doubles, triples, hits, and runs. He was elected in the baseball Hall of Fame in 1999. He joined the great baseball athletes who have displayed remarkable performances in the duration of their careers.

Although he retired, he still made appearances in the baseball arena. He became a bench coach for the D-backs. He even served the Brewers again as bench coach in 2005.

Killebrew, A Killer Baseball Hero

Harmon Clayton Killebrew is a baseball hall of famer. He was born on June 29, 1936 at Payette, Idaho. One can say that his greatest influence is his father, Harmon Sr. His father is a sports fan who made it through one of the toughest college football teams in his time, the Milliken College. Harmon Sr. also advised all his children to get into sport.

Killebrew seemed to have taken the advice of his father seriously because he got into baseball. He spent 22 years of his life playing the sport where he excelled in many ways. Most highlights of his career took place in the 1960s, being one of the best hitters of the major league. His homeruns during that time was incomparable to other baseball players.

Although his talent has helped brought the Minnesota Twins in the World Series, baseball was not his only sport. He played various sports while he was still studying. In fact, when he was in High School, he gained the All American quarterback title.

His talents in baseball drew attention. The Boston Red Sox and the Washington Senators were interested in signing him. The Senators signed him under the Bonus Rule. During that time, he was the youngest in the major league at age 17. Like most young players, he struggled in the major leagues.

After spending two full seasons in the major leagues, he went to the South Atlantic League and came back to the major leagues after a while. One of the highlights in his career when he came back to the majors was his homerun in the Memorial Stadium. At that time, he was only the second player to hit the ball over the barrier of its center field. He played with the Chattanooga Lookouts in 1957 where he led the league in homeruns. He also made it to the All Star amidst his shoulder injury.

Although Killebrew struggled a few times, Calvin Griffith of the Senators thought that he would be a great asset for the team. He was right. After finding his rhythm, Killebrew became one of the strongest regular players of the Senators in 1959. He was hitting home runs game after game.

In 1961, the team became the Minnesota Twins. He also became the team captain. He continued to improve his number of homeruns. Finally, the Twins won the American League pennant in 1965. He did not have a smooth journey in the 1960s though. He had quite a few injuries. However, this did not stop him from winning the Most Valuable player in 1969.

There was no denying that Killebrew is one of the stars in his team. However, he never acted like one. His teammates would describe him as quiet and reserve who did not enjoy spending his nights partying with the rest of the guys. He shies away from the limelight as much as possible.

The nickname killer came about because of his hitting abilities. He appeared eleven times in the all stars. He was also able to lead the league in home runs six times. His induction to the Baseball Hall of Fame took place in 1984. Recognition he truly deserves.

The Birth of the New York Mets

After the rivals, Dodgers and Giants moved to California in 1957, New York needed a new baseball team for the major leagues. To prevent the realization of the plan to establish the new Continental league, the National League and American league announced that they are going to add new teams, two for NL and another two for AL.

The National League picked New York to franchise a new team. They proposed the idea to the New York Group of the planned Continental League. This proposition has one condition though. They have to promise to build a new baseball park for the team.

After everything was in order, the team needed a name. Several names came out. However, the group unanimously picked Mets, giving birth to the New York Mets. The name had an appeal to the group because it is close to the old New York Metropolitan team who played for the American Association in the 1880s.

The team had a huge impact on baseball fans who were deeply saddened when the Dodgers and Giants transferred to California. Somehow, the team managed to unite the fans of the rival teams.

During the expansion draft in 1961, the team chose veteran players who have impressive records in the past. They did not gamble on new players with big potentials because the owners feel that mature players are more appealing to the fans.

Like most new franchises, the team struggled, losing their first nine games. Their first season was so bad that they made it to the worst list of baseball history. This did not stop fans from loving the Mets. Even in their losing streak, the fans were there. The team was then popular for being incompetent in the early 1960s. Some of their players became popular because of this.

The team finally had their very own stadium, the Shea Stadium. Several odd moments took place there after the team started playing at the stadium. This includes the incident in 1964 where New Yorkers cheered for the visiting team, the Philadelphia Phillies. This took place when Phillies pitcher, Jim Bunning made history as he led their victory over the Mets after throwing a perfect game. This was a momentous event in National League.

No matter how lovable the team was, losing is not a good legacy to impart to supporters. The team attempted to improve and acquired Yogi Berra to serve as a playing coach for the team. After playing his fourth and last game, Berra concentrated to become a coach. This has brought a promising light to the team.

New players came into play including Tom Seaver who won the Rookie of the Year title in 1967. Other new bloods joined him to set a new reputation for the New York Mets. The management changed as well.

They had their Cinderella story in 1969 when they finished first after everyone thought that Chicago Cubs would have a nice smooth season. They did not stop there. They defeated the much-loved Atlanta Braves as they earned the very first National League Championship.
